Stage 4 Exploiting Earth - Water as a Resource
Working in a round Our Water Lab Stage 3 & 4, students will investigate precipitation, evaporation, groundwater, water storage and human use and conservation of water. Students will be using the latest analytical equipment (e.g 8 Data loggers)to perform hands-on investigations and problem solving. There is also a seperate water lab website that supports the lab visit with pre and post activites. www.watersciencelab.cim.au

Stage 4 Investigating the Local Environment
Investigate the biodiversity of a local environment and develop an illustration of local food webs. They measure the abiotic features, discover the local geology, test the water quality and identify human impacts.
Outcomes WS7.1 WS9 ES1 ES4 LW1 LW4 LW5
View our Sustainability Energy Trailer which is full of alternative energy and power saving devices such as solar panels, and wind turbines. Discuss the impacts of Climate Change and devise solutions for the future.

Stage 6 Evolution of Australian Biota
Identify and explain changes in the distribution of plant communities . Conduct an investigation of Australian Biota and explain its evolutionary order, survival features and reproduction. Discuss the impacts of Climate Change on plants and animals.
Stage 6 Local Ecosystems
Biology 8.2 , Earth and Environ Science 8.3, Senior Science 8.5
Conduct a scientific exploration of a local environment (Rainforest, Wetlands or Coastal Rock Platform) and discuss human impacts. Use transects and quadrats to study the distribution and abundance of plants and animals in an environment. Learn about plant and animal adaptations and how to measure the abiotic factors.
Choices of environments include rainforests, coasts and wetlands. Canoes can be hired at Evans Head or Brunswick head if you would like to take the trip by water.
Dorroughby EEC can consult with your school to design a program that suits your specific needs or your local environment. Please phone us to discuss
Rainforest: Rummery Park-Minyon Falls, Terania Creek, Sheep Station Creek (Border Ranges)
