Geography

Stage 4 - 4G1 INVESTIGATING THE WORLD

Investigate a local environment. Become familiar with basic field work equipment such as hygrometers, light meters, anemometers and compasses. Participate in a bush walk through the environment and use the equipment to measure abiotic factors and identify landforms.

Sites: Rocky Creek Dam, Byron Bay, Rummery Park-Minyon Falls, Flat Rock- Ballina.

Stage 4 – Global Issues and the Role of Citizenship -Sustainability audits

A study of waste, water, energy and biodiversity at your school. Students will collect data on I PADS and document and reporting findings to the rest of the school.  Focus on active citizenship and creating change.

Stage 5- 5A2 Changing Australian Communities – Byron Bay

Discuss the changes in the Byron Bay community past and present.  Plan and implement a survey and questionnaire to collect data.  Analyse the effects of change on the environment.

Stage 5 -  5A3 ISSUES IN AUSTRALIAN ENVIRONMENTS

Coasts at Byron Bay (Belongil Beach)

Investigate the issue involved in coastal management in Byron Bay, such as the challenges posed by coastal erosion to residential, recreational and natural areas. Discuss the range of management options and collect data on beach characteristics. Activities include:
