Early Stage 1 - Stage 1
Early Stage 1 – Stage 1
Forest Friends Picnic Site: Rocky Creek Dam
Come on a picnic to Rocky Creek Dam with all the local animals and bring your own Australian Animal toy for the day. Discover the requirements of animals that live in the forest; use your 5 senses; play environmental games and enjoy a sensory bush walk.
Need For Shelter Site: Dorroughby EEC
Investigate animal and people shelters (past and present). Join in on a habitat walk searching for shelters using treasure hunt cards and discover how to increase habitat native animals. Investigate your own shelter (house) and explore energy saving strategies from our sustainability trailer. The last part of the day will provide an opportunity for everybody to make their own model shelter.
Wet and Dry Environments Site: Dorroughby EEC
Discover the characteristics of a wet and a dry environment. Use dip nets to search for invertebrates in Dudgeon's dam and test the water to ensure it's healthy for plants and animals. Use binoculars to search for water birds and spot the platypus that live at the dam. Compare your findings with the invertebrates that live in our habitat area and use a microscope to see them up close. Collate your thoughts in a natural collage of your favourite environment.
After our Dudgeon's Dam study we will organise a bus to Rocky Creek Dam for a bushwalk through the Rainforest and along the dam wall.
Science - Insect Day Site: Dorroughby EEC or Your School
Students investigate the importance of invertebrates; meet a phasmid; invent an insect; use microscopes and observe insect habitats; use an iPad to create a stop motion video and make bug snacks
